New Delhi: Yesterday was a great, unforgettable Thursday for Hamdard Study Circle, New Delhi’s premier coaching institute for civil services aspirants from weaker section of society, particularly Muslim community. The 18-year-old coaching centre was brought laurels by its preparing candidate Shah Faesal who got No. 1 rank in Civil Services examination 2009.
The highest success the coaching centre got till before yesterday was second position in the Civil Services examination conducted by Union Public Service Commission almost every year.
As many as 42 students of Hamdard Study Circle had cleared Mains of Civil Services examination 2009 held last year. Of them 18 were selected for interview, and 9 of them got final success. Moreover, this coaching centre has got about 50% of successful Muslim candidates this year. Of 21 Muslims, 9 are from Hamdard Study Circle – 8 Muslims and one non-Muslim. Currently 50 students are preparing for Civil Services.
Expressing his happiness over the historic success, Syed Hamid, Chancellor, Hamdard University says: “We were working toward this end and ultimately we have achieved it. Earlier the highest position the Hamdard Study Circle got was the second position in civil services. This is the first time our student has topped in civil services examination. We are certainly and legitimately proud of that.”
On success of so many Muslims from his coaching centre, Ateeq Ahmed, Chief Administrator says: We are happy with the success. This is the first time we have got first rank. We are also happy because about 50% of successful Muslim candidates are our students.
On the mantra of success, he says: “We took services of top faculties from different universities including Jamia Hamdard, JNU and AMU.”
Hamdard Study Circle was founded by Hakeem Abdul Hameed in 1992 for preparing students of weaker section of society, particularly Muslims, for Civil Services Examination conducted by Union Public Service Commission.
The Circle provides coaching for all the three stages of the Civil Services Examination, viz Preliminary Examination, Main Examination and Personality Test.
Hamdard Study Circle has boarding and lodging facilities, a well-equipped library, internet facility, office complex, recreation room, a modern dining hall and kitchen housed in the 14-acre sprawling campus of Talimabad near the main campus of Hamdard University in South Delhi. There is no fee charged for coaching but students are required to pay Rs. 800/- per month for the maintenance of the hostel and amenities and Rs. 850/- per month for meals. Stipends to deserving students of Minority, OBC and SC/ST Categories are available through a Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment grant, says the university website.
