According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature recorded Monday was two degrees above the average at 43.4 degrees Celsius. The minimum was recorded at 30.2 degrees Celsius, three notches above the average for this time of the year.

The high humidity – recorded at 62 percent – added to the weather woes, making for an uncomfortably sultry day.

No respite seems to be in sight as the Met department has forecast the mercury level to increase further over the next few days.

“The weather will remain similar over the next few days. On Tuesday the skies are expected to be clear and the maximum temperature will hover around 45 degrees Celsius. The temperature on Wednesday could go up to 46 degrees Celsius,” an IMD official said.

“There is no immediate sign of rain in the city,” the official added.
