Srinagar : Six separatist guerrillas, all foreigners, were killed in two separate gunfights in north Kashmir Monday, police said.
Two foreign militants were killed in a gunfight with the security forces in Lalad village of Sopore Monday evening.
“The operation was launched jointly by the Rashtriya Rifles, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the local police,” a senior police officer told IANS.
According to the police officer, the house which the holed-up militants were using as a fortified bunker was destroyed in the gunfight.
“The bodies of two militants, both of them believed to be foreigners, are lying under the debris. The debris clearance operation would be undertaken tomorrow (Tuesday) morning,” the police officer said.
A second gunfight in Nardajan (Handwara) village in Kupwara district ended with the killing of the four militants, also said to be foreigners.
“Four foreign militants have been killed in this operation which was launched by the Rashtriya Rifles and the Para Regiment of the army,” the officer said
The bodies of all the four slain militants have been recovered from the debris of the house they had been using as a fortified bunker, the officer said, adding that the affiliation of the slain militants was being established.
