Berlin : Emirates Airline, the biggest customer for the Airbus A380 super jumbo, is to order 32 more of the world’s largest passenger jets, worth around 11.5 billion US dollars, press reports said here Tuesday.
Set to expand Dubai as a global travel hub, Emirates was already the biggest customer for the 525-seat double-decker aircraft, with 58 orders so far.
Emirates has earlier received 10 A380s planes, one of which was showcased Tuesday at Berlin’s ILA airshow.
The A380 is used by Emirates en routes to Bangkok, London, Paris and Sydney, and it flies the A380 in various configurations, depending on the length of the flight.
The airliner is set to resume flights to New York from Dubai later this year after suspending the route earlier.
The new order would signal a major breakthrough for Airbus on the A380 after winning only one new customer for the 525-seat jet since commercial operations began in 2007.
Emirates was among the first to take delivery of the super jumbo jet, which is also operated by Air France KLM Group, Singapore Airlines, Qantas Airways and Deutsche Lufthansa AG.
