New Delhi: With an apparent move to streamline things for Haj and waqf management, Lok Sabha MP from Assam, Maulana Badruddin Ajmal has urged formation of a new independent ‘Hajj and Awqaf Ministry’. He appealed to the community to press the central government for it.
As the likely expansion of the Union Cabinet is due in a month, the lone MP of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) from Dhubri Lok Sabha constituency in the Northeastern state has urged the community to put the demand before the Prime Minister and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi through letter, fax and email.

“Proper protection of Awqaf and its utilization for the community benefit along with smooth execution of Hajj services have been some of the issues that Muslim community is much concerned for past few years. Affirmative actions from the Central Government in these issues are demanded by the community from time to time and these have been the part of almost all public meetings the community leaders conduct in the length and breadth of the country in recent time,” perfume baron Ajmal said.
“In a democracy nothing is achievable without popular mass demand. An expansion of the Union Cabinet of the UPA government in the Centre is likely within a month time. It would be in the community interest to put a strong demand before UPA Chairperson Ms Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh for a separate independent Ministry for Hajj and Awqaf,” he said and urged all social and humanitarian NGOs and individual citizens of India to send as many letter, fax and emails to UPA Chairperson and Prime Minister of India in favor of the demand.
MP Maulana Ajmal is backing Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre from outside, so right now he is not part of the central ministry.
