New Delhi: Anurita Saini, former assistant coach of the women’s hockey team, said she is contemplating legal action against the players who have alleged that she had an affair with coach M.K. Kaushik.
Saini, who was assistant to chief coach Kaushik till 2006, said she and her family are disturbed over the way her name has been dragged into the controversy.
“It is very embarrassing for me and my family,” Saini told NDTV.
“I have contacted my lawyer. And I am going to file a defamation case against those who have taken my name,” said Saini, who was part of the 1982 Asian Games gold medal winning team.
A few players including former captain and goalkeeper Helen Mary had alleged that Saini had an affair with Kaushik.
“How can they take my name without any evidence. And a senior player like Helen Mary is doing this. Do they know the meaning of having an affair with someone. I have left the team long back. Why are they defaming me after four years.”
“I had a professional relationship with Kaushik. We had good co-ordination and during our time the team performed well.”
“I want all this to be properly investigated by Sports Authority of India, CBI or any agency. Whatever is happening is not good for hockey.”
