The minister informed the Rajya Sabha during question hour that 11 percent of the delays in trains are caused due to ‘rail roko’, shutdowns, obstructions and sabotage done to the trains and tracks.

“Many trains get late because of shutdowns. Many political parties do it as well,” Banerjee said.

However, Banerjee said she will not name any party to maintain the dignity of the house.

“I will not name any party, I will fight my political battle out of this house,” she said.

“There have been 217 disruptions in train services and the railways have incurred a loss of Rs.1,000 crore due to it. But we have maintained 75 percent punctuality,” Banerjee said.

Calling the traffic congestions and lack of infrastructure the other reasons for the delays, the minister said efforts are afoot to upgrade the railways infrastructure.
