Srinagar: An uneasy calm prevails in the Kashmir Valley on Tuesday again.
Schools and business establishments have reopened after a four daylong strike. Vehicles too have come back on the roads.
According to Hurriyat (G) programme sheet people have been called for no strike today. Meanwhile, the fresh protest chart of Hurriyat (G) was announced in the evening.
Banks were also seen functional while people were seen in long queues outside ATMs withdrawing money.
Traffic jams were reported from many places especially city’s commercial hub Lal Chowk.
People have resumed their normal activities and markets and private offices are functioning. There are traffic snarls due to the heavy rush of people.
The situation in the valley became tense on 11th June when security forces were accused of killing a teenage boy. Authorities had to order security forces to arrest activists and undertake flag marches in Srinagar to bring the situation under control.
A report from Baramulla said that life was returning to normal in this and other north Kashmir districts and people were seen purchasing essentials.
The Hurriyat Conference (G) as a part of its ongoing ‘Quit Kashmir’ campaign Tuesday announced its new protest calendar for the coming ten days asking people to reach TRC ground Srinagar on August 28.
According to a statement issued here, complete strike will be observed on August 25 and 26. “No strike on August 27,” the statement said. “Complete strike on August 28.
People are appealed to reach TRC ground Srinagar for massive public rally.”From August 29 to August 31, there will be complete strike but no strike should be observed from 5 pm to 7 am on these three days.
The statement further said no strike will be observed on September 1 but complete strike on September 2. “No strike on September 3. Complete strike on September 4. Next program will be announced on September 4,” the statement said.
