Sensex moves up from opening lows, still quiet

Mumbai : A benchmark index for Indian equities crept up from its opening lows Friday, but was still trading dull, about an hour into trade.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 18,205.9 points, was at 18,212.31 points, 14.04 points or 0.08 percent down from its previous close at 18,226.35 points.

It had fallen to 18,155.16 points soon after opening bell.

At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty was ruling 0.13 percent in the red at 5,470.95 points.

Broader markets indices were doing relatively better, with the BSE midcap 0.58 percent up and the BSE smallcap index 0.49 percent higher.

Auto and metal scrips saw some buying, while IT stocks came under selling pressure.

The market breadth was tilted towards the positive with 1,481 scrips advancing, compared to 1,023 stocks declining and 79 remaining unchanged.
