New Delhi: The Congress Friday admitted that controversies and slow preparation of the Commonwealth Games had allowed fingers to be raised by some foreign countries but said that the immediate task before each stakeholder was to deliver the event in a proper manner.
“I agree that we should not have given anybody a chance to point fingers. It is also a question of stereotype and mindset,” Congress spokesman Manish Tewari said.
Elaborating, he said there was a certain mentality which makes efforts to present India in a stereotyped way.
He said the immediate task was for each stakeholder “to pull out all stops so that the Games are delivered in a proper manner”.
Some foreign teams had criticised the Games Village as “unliveable”. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Thursday held a meeting with Sports Minister M.S. Gill, Urban Development Minister S. Jaipal Reddy and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to emphasise urgency in addressing all concerns relating to the Games preparations.
