Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala comes back to normal life as the prohibitory orders clamped in the state in the wake of the court verdict on the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhumi title suit have been removed. The state received the verdict with calm. No untoward incidents were reported. Leaders appreciated the calmness all over the country over the issue, even though there was different opinion on the verdict.
Prohibitory orders were clamped in most of the districts from early morning on Thursday to late night on Friday. There was a ban on posters, demonstrations and SMS. Nealry 30, 000 policemen were also deployed in different parts of the state. No untoward incident was reported but for a case of a provocative SMS in which three persons were arrested in Kollam.
The Babri verdict was totally unexpected, said Kadakkal Abdul Azeez Moulvi, state president of the Kerala Muslim Jamath Federation, to TCN. A permanent solution should be reached through legal measures. This is not a verdict, but only a formula to avoid the problems feared. Everybody knows that the Babri Masjid stood on that land. So, at least the place where the masjid was located should have been given back to the masjid itself. The rest of the land could have been divided among the parties. Or the place of the masjid could have been kept under govt control without giving anybody and the rest of the land divided. According to law, the land should be given to the owner and not distributed among the parties. Now the SC will be approached and the case will continue. However, communal harmony should be maintained. No problem should happen in the country because of this case, he added.
The court verdict has come as a compromise decree, and not as a legal verdict, said Adv KPM Shareef, state president of SDPI, to TCN. It is as a decree in a partition suit whereas the suit filed was a title suit. If the SC is approached, it will observe that the finding of the HC was not right as per the suit filed. And the case will continue, he added.
The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has made a verdict without considering responsibility, opined P Mujeebrahman, state president of the Solidarity Youth Movement. The eagerness for a consensus protrudes above the keenness for rule of justice. Even as compromise for national interest is welcome, people expect justice from the court in a case that has lingered on for six decades. The verdict should be based on facts. Even if it a compromise, the government and the court has the responsibility to ensure that justice is not denied on any part. The courts should not lose their position as the last resort of the citizens for justice. The public interest formed by the media tricks should not influence the apex bodies of the country. He welcomed the decisions of the Babri Committee to approach the Supreme Court. He added that the problems arisen by the HC verdict should be discussed openly in the public.
