Indian PM ends visit to Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur : Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has ended his three-day visit to Malaysia and left for Vietnam where he will attend the series of summit meetings held annually between the 10 leaders of the Association of South East Asian Nations (Asean) and their counterparts from other regional powers.

Dr Manmohan left for Hanoi from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport at Sepang near hereat 3.15 pm (1315 hours UTC) Thursday accompanuied by his wife, Gursharan Kaur, and members of his delegation. He was seen off by Malaysian Human Resource Minister Dr S. Subramaniam and Deputy Foreign Minister Senator A. Kohilan Pillay.

The visit by Manmohan, which has encouraged a more strategic two-way relationship, was to reciprocate the visit of Prime Minister Seri Najib Tun Razak to India in January.

Dr Manmohan held talks with Najib and signed a memorandum finalising the Malaysia-India Comprehensive Economic Co-operation Agreement, which will provide more trade and
investment opportunities for both countries.

He also attended the India-Malaysia CEOs Forum which discussed the direction of trade and industry of the two countries, and joined Najib in launching the “Little India” enclave in the Brickfields area of Kuala Lumpur.
