At a function here, state Labour Minister B.N. Bache Gowda Thursday distributed job offer letters to the 60 candidates who secured placements through the exchange.

To secure jobs for the educated unemployed youth, the state government set up the Karnataka Vocational Training and Skill Development Corporation Limited (KVTSDC) as a nodal agency in partnership with TeamLease Staffing Solutions Ltd, a Bangalore-based staffing solutions firm, under the PPP model.

“As we recognise that lack of job skills is the core issue affecting employability of our youth, we have set up the corporation to address this issue. The project has received a good response from students and employers in its initial phase,” said KVTSDC Executive Director V.S. Chatpalli.

The two-year-old corporation provides vocational training and employment to school dropouts, unemployed youth, ITI graduates and other workers.

“The aim is to empower all individuals through improved skills and knowledge and enable them to secure a bright future. It also addresses the skill gaps in the industries and service sector by providing them with trained youth,” Chatpalli said.

About 4,000 candidates have registered with the KEC since it was set up in July 2010. Of them, 400 were placed till October while another 300 are undergoing training.

The candidates have been placed in business process outsourcing (BPO), IT-enabled Services (ITeS), manufacturing, automobile, construction, retail, healthcare, banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) and information technology (IT)

“With the recent acquisition of the Indian Institute of Job Training (IIJT), we will ensure structured entry and exit gate assessments for candidates, with required vocational training programmes,” TeamLease vice-president Neeti Sharma said.

Profiles of registered candidates include fresh graduates/under-graduates and working professionals with up to two years of work experience while candidates registered for training constitute a large number of school drop-outs, graduates and working professionals.
