Lucknow: Buoyed by the Supreme Court’s green signal to her dream project, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati Monday inaugurated her dream parks here – dedicated to B.R. Ambedkar.
On the occasion of his 54th death anniversary, Mayawati paid rich tributes to Ambedkar, the icon of her Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
The day’s highlight was unveiling of a four-faced statue of Ambedkar on a sprawling reclaimed plot of land along the Gomati river.
She unveiled two statues of Ambedkar in a pocket of Lucknow’s posh Gomati Nagar that already has as many as four Ambedkar statues.
Two new statues were installed in four new parks carved out from reclaimed banks of the Gomati.
The parks were created as a part of a special drive to beautify the banks of the river that flows through this city.
The chief minister also named a huge parking lot after Ambedkar.
What began as a Rs.150-crore Ambedkar Park spread over a 25 acre plot of land during Mayawati’s first stint in office in the mid-90s has now grown into a huge 150 acre complex of memorials, parks and statues.
