English media hail Adeliade victory

By IANS,

London : While the Australian media launched a scathing attack on their team, their English counterparts hailed the demolition of old foes at Adelaide as “flawless” execution of cricket.

“Without equivocation, this was the most complete performance by an England team in the memory of those who witnessed it. From the first over to the last, they dominated proceedings, first with the ball and in the field, and then with the bat. It was virtually flawless,” the Guardian said.

“If there were those who felt that England might have peaked too early in the warm-ups, then now it can be seen that they had not got beyond base camp. The only question is how to sustain it.”

“Australia can go away now, lick the wounds and try to regroup during the 10-day break before the third Test.”

Off-spinner Graeme Swann’s match-winning haul, that included five in the second innings, drew a lot of praise.

“Seven of Graeme Swann’s 10 five-wicket hauls have been away from England, let it be noted, matched only by Derek Underwood as a spinner and in a third of the matches.”

Commenting on the last day of the Test, BBC said: “Australia were capitulating dramatically in much the same way England did at the hands of Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne on numerous occasions, including a final-day collapse in Adelaide four years ago.”
