Kuala Lumpur : There are 28,571 academic staff in the 20 public universities in the country as of Nov 30, according to statistics obtained by the Higher Education Ministry.
Its minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin said 8,031 (28.1 per cent ) of them had PhDs, 15,986 (56 per cent) Masters degrees, 4,247 (14.9 per cent) first degrees, 134 (0.5 per cent) diplomas while 174 advanced dipomas and other qualifications.
He told this to reporters after opening a leadership programme for young academicians and student leaders here today.
The programme is aimed at producing future leaders for the country.
