“The municipal headquarter in Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus is a heritage building. The upcoming Engineering Hub too will be an architectural marvel,” said Rahul Shevale, chairman of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) Standing Committee.

“Currently, the offices of the hydraulic engineer, city engineer and several engineering departments like storm water drains, maintenance and engineering, traffic and bridges and building proposal are scattered. These will be relocated at the new building once construction is complete,” he said.

Spread over more than 200,000 sq feet, the building will house a library, an engineering record room, a tender room and a control room. The building will also have a data facility centre to control the computerised operations of the BMC.

The new building will also double-up as a back-up office in case of a disaster, he said. It will house a dormitory where employees from the engineering department would stay in any emergency.

“The construction is 70 percent complete,” Shevale said.
