Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir government and the security agencies here Sunday chalked out a strategy to prevent trouble in the Valley due to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s “tiranga yatra” (tricolor hoisting march) to Srinagar on Republic Day Jan 26.
The meeting of the unified headquarters, a decision-making body on the security affairs in the state, was attended among others by top army commanders, including Northern Command chief Lt. Gen. K.T. Parnaik, and senior police and paramilitary officers.
The participants agreed that the situation in the Valley should not be allowed to be disturbed by any incident, sources said.
It was decided to deal strictly with the Kashmiri separatists who were trying to disrupt peace over the flag-hoisting plan of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of the BJP, Jan 26.
The BJYM started its march to Srinagar from Kolkata Jan 12. The march will pass through 11 states before entering Jammu and Kashmir.
“The law is the same for everyone and the separatists have no right to cause any disruption. The terrorists and their sympathisers would be dealt with as per the law of the land,” an officer, who participated in the meeting, told IANS.
It was felt that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah could talk to senior BJP leaders and urge them to call off the march.
An official release, however, said: “The meeting discussed in detail various matters pertaining to the law and order and general security situation in the State.”
