New Delhi: Around of 60 physiotherapists from government hospitals in the city staged a demonstration at India Gate, lying down on the road and blocking traffic, which led to traffic jams in the capital Friday evening.
The protest affected peak hour traffic on all the roads spreading out from the India Gate hexagon, said a traffic police official.
Under the banner of Indian Physiotherapy Students Association, the demonstrators gathered at Indian Gate around 5 p.m. to protest what they alleged was discrimination in various hospitals and being compared with nurses and technicians.
“They, without prior permission, staged the protest at India Gate so were stopped at Shahjahan Road a few minutes after they gathered. They were protesting against being compared with nurses and technicians,” Additional Commissioner of Police K.C. Dwivedi told IANS.
