Anifah said though Internet or TV stations like Al Jazeera, BBC and CNN were showing footages as if there were mass violent protests, the security and safety situation remained under control because such incidents were concentrated in a few places and not throughout the countries concerned.

The foreign minister told Malaysian reporters that the Foreign Ministry was closely monitoring the situation in countries like Algeria, Bahrain, Libya and Yemen while the embassies in Algiers, Manama, Tripoli and Sana’a have been put on alert to help Malaysians staying there.

Anifah is here with Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak who starts a three-day official visit to Turkey from Monday (Feb 21).
