Hold unconditional dialogue in Kashmir: Brinda Karat

Srinagar: Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Brinda Karat Saturday said any dialogue intended to resolve the Kashmir problem must be unconditional.

Speaking at a two-day women’s conference here organised by central government-appointed interlocutor Radha Kumar, she said a dialogue without any pre-conditions was the only way forward in Kashmir.

The CPI-M leader also demanded setting up an independent commission to probe the 114 deaths of civilians during last year’s summer unrest in the Valley so that those responsible for these killings are brought to justice.

Karat, along with the other two interlocutors Dileep Padgaonkar and M.M. Ansari, attended the conference, at the Sher-e-Kashmir Convention Complex, where local women expressed views regarding the Kashmir problem.

The conference was organized by interlocutor Radha Kumar while the other two interlocutors also attended the deliberations

Many prominent local women including state women’s commission chairman Shamima Firdous, Asiya Naqash of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Naheeda Soz, daughter of Congress state unit chief Saifuddin Soz, prominent local social worker and ‘Help Foundation’ chairperson Nighat Pandit attended the conference.

Radha Kumar told media persons the interaction with the local women would help them understand their problems better and this would form an important part of the interlocutors’ recommendations to the central government.
