Dubai : A total of 499 people, including street vendors, beggars and car-washers have been arrested in Dubai, an official said.
Several low-quality goods and pirated CDs were also seized after civic inspectors conducted spot checks in several streets and public places.
Street-vending, begging and car-washing in public places is a violation of labour laws.
The arrested people include 350 street vendors, 53 beggars, 75 car-washers and 21 butchers and fish-cleaners, the official said.
Over 2,000 counterfeit products, including readymade garments, perfumes and phones carrying names of international brands were confiscated. Nearly 7,000 pirated movie DVDs, 67 pornographic movies and foodstuff were also seized.
The operation was carried out by Dubai Municipality, Dubai Police and the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department.
