The Representative Council (RC) also adopted two minor amendments in the Jamaat Constitution and discussed the report of Jamaat’s activities of the last two years. A number of resolutions were passed, in this session.

    RESOLUTIONS:
    1. Sad demise of Maulana Mohammed Shafi Moonis:

The RC of Jamaat condoles the sad death of its senior leader and towering personality Maulana Mohd. Shafi Moonis; his death is a great loss for the community and the country. His long life span of 93 years was spent in serving the Islamic movement and till his last breath, he remained committed to the Islamic mission and cause. He presented in his life a model of devotion and sacrifice. He served Jamaat in various capacities and was associated with other Muslim community forums at various important positions. He served the community and the country to his best.

The RC prays to the Almighty to bestow His best rewards on the deported soul and raise him to an exalted position in paradise. May Allah grant forbearance to his near and dear ones and may the Islamic movement continue to attract people of the same calibre.

    2. Innocents framed in terror cases should be released:

A number of minor and major disruptive acts occurred in our country during the last two decades. The official agencies and media routinely put the blame on Muslims, without an iota of evidence against them. Thousand of Muslim youth and as well as elders were put behind bars and framed in false cases. They and their families were subjected to harassment and torture. This huge injustice has not even been acknowledged by our collective conscience; any remedial steps are obviously a far cry.

Inspite of discouraging any impartial inquiry, the real facts have at last begun to emerge. The actual culprits behind these disruptive acts are found to be Hindutava inspired individuals and groups. There is no evidence at all of Muslim’s involvement in such acts.

In these circumstances RC of Jamaat demands an impartial inquiry into all disruptive acts of the last two decades. In the meantime, all innocent people – mostly Muslims – must be released from jail and the fabricated cases against them withdrawn. Adequate compensation should be given to the affected individuals and families. The government, its agencies and media should render an apology to the Muslim community, for tarnishing its image and should reform their attitude towards Muslims. The actual culprits should be dealt with in accordance with the law.

    3. The issue of Corruption:

Corruption and dishonesty have reached alarming proportions in our country. The malaise has reached the highest levels in the society involving important individuals and institutions. 2G spectrum and common wealth games are the most glaring examples. Politics, business and other sections of public life are all ruled by corruption and it has contaminated the entire fabric of society. Common people are under the twin impact of corruption and inflation. If the situation is not controlled, it may become catastrophic.

The RC is emphatic in its view that upright and honest people must come forward at this juncture and take remedial steps cleaning of politics must be their first priority. The RC session urges the government to launch an effective anti-corruption drive. The corrupt must be removed from all positions of office and dealt with, according to the law. Individuals and parties which come forward to fight corruption, should earn our support.

The RC appreciates anti-corruption initiatives of Anna Hazare and others; which they have made to get the Lokpal bill adopted. The RC supports such efforts.

    4. India’s independence in danger:

Wikileaks revelations have highlighted the grave danger to India’s independence. Foreign influence, particularly of the US has increased enormously and government as well as all political parties appear to have succumbed to it. The US is influencing not only the foreign policy but also defence matters, security issues and internal affairs. The neo-imperialist forces want to control our country economically and politically. The political system of the country, instead of resisting this aggression is actually bowing down to it.

The RC appeals to the enlightened sections of Indian society to take note of these alarming developments. The independence of the country is to be safe guarded and the task can not be left to the political class. Serious steps to counter the imperialist designs must be envisaged and carried out; with the support of the masses.

    5. Freedom wave in the Arab world:

RC welcomes the new popular wave in the Arab world which promises the onset of a new era of freedom. Egypt and Tunisia have witnessed the removal of pro US, Israel regimes. Other Arab countries notably Libya, Yemen, Jordon, Bahrain, Algiers, Syria and Morocco are witnessing popular movement, towards representative governments. The developments are important for the region and also for Muslim would as a whole.

The RC reiterates at this juncture that independence from foreign influence and local dictators is only the first step; major responsibilities lie ahead. The Arab people have got an opportunity to model their collective life according to the Islamic ideals. The opportunity must be utilised to establish a system based on the Quran and the prophetic model. All segments of society – Muslims as well as non-Muslims – should be able to enjoy justice, peace and prosperity and the system should become a model for the whole world.

The RC session expresses its concern over the illegitimate and improper interference in this region by neo imperialist powers. They intend to trap this region once again to continue their evil designs. The RC session urges the Arab people to remain vigilant and safeguard their freedom. Foreign interference must not be tolerated; otherwise their movement may lose whatever it has achieved, after precious sacrifices.
