Citing the ANSA news agency, Xinhua reported that the decision was taken after talks between Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi and British Prime Minister David Cameron.

The instructors will leave for Libya after details are worked out, La Russa told local media after a meeting with his British counterpart Liam Fox.

France and Britain have announced their willingness to send military officers to Libya to help rebel forces.

However, La Russa ruled out Italy sending ground troops to Libya.
