Since last two years or so, the Central University has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. It has seen four closures because of incidences of violence. Moreover the charges of financial irregularities against its VC, have divided the student community as well as the faculty and AMU’s Old Boys Associations across the world. While initially the VC had few supporters left to defend him on the pretext of keeping law and order in the campus, frequent sine-dies and incompetence of the AMU in handling law and order, have seen support for Azis thinning down.

Charges against the VC include the allegation that the VC and the Registrar paid their income tax from the university funds, autocratic way of functioning by the VC, and the charges of plagiarism against the VC in his D Sc. Interestingly the ministry did two inquiries in addition to inquiries by UP against the VC in cases of financial irregularities but nothing substantial happened.
