New Delhi: Jamia Teachers’ Solidarity Association (JTSA) has condemned the attack on peaceful protesting students of Jamia Millia Islamia, demanding that they be allowed to sit for their annual examinations. Since last two days more than 17 students of the prestigious Mass Communication Research Center (MCRC) along with more than 50 students of the university who have been supporting them, have been on hunger strike just outside the premise of the university. But reportedly the Delhi police manhandled the students, including female students. Reportedly they were abused, slapped, punched and kicked.

Condemning incident, the JTSA said that peaceful protest cannot be criminalized and police has no place in a university, “We are of the firm belief that university campuses cannot be run like cantonments. The administration cannot engage with its students—whether it believes their demands justified or not—through the police, nor can it take away the democratic right to peacefully protest.”
