New Delhi: Recognizing Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) as a minority institution, the university administration has finally implemented the 50% reservation to Muslim students for admissions in all courses of the university from the academic session of 2011-12. A quota of 10% for Muslim girls and 10% for Muslim OBC and ST students within the quota of 50% reservation is another attractive feature by the Jamia which is now the only minority central university in India.
According to a university circular issued yesterday, only 42% seats will be left for the general category students after the revised pattern of reservation is being implemented which also gives 3% reservation to those from the category of physically handicapped. Those who have done their education from Jamia School who used to get 25% reservation earlier, will now get only 5% reservation. And only those students will get these reservations who have spent their five years in Jamia School.
According to PRO of the university Simi Malhotra, those who have already filled up their forms will have to submit another form which is available on the university website www.jamia.ac.in. This form provides a code for every category of students. G for general category students, M for Muslim students, MW for Muslim women, MO for Muslim OBC, MT for Muslim ST, PH for physically handicapped and J for those students who have completed their five years of study in Jamia Schools. Those applying for AJK Mass Communication Research Center (MCRC) will have to submit this form by May 25 writing A Fresh on the prescribed form. For the MBA aspirant in Jamia the final date of submission of this form is May 19.
This reservation pattern has been implemented after the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (NCMEI) recognized JMI as a minority institution in its February 22 order.
