New Delhi : Launching a short-duration training programme for low ranking officials involved in investigations, Delhi Police chief Y.S. Dadwal Thursday asked them to upgrade their law knowledge for impartial and efficient law enforcement.
“The investigators should update their knowledge of law, otherwise cases in the court will not withstand cross-examination,” Dadwal said.
“The officials should also update themselves about a large number of new enactments, various Supreme Court rulings and directions from national and state statutory bodies relating to human rights, women, children and the SC/ST communities,” he added.
The Delhi Police is conducting a four-week training programme with the help of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University from Nov 1 to Nov 29.
Retired high court judges, senior lawyers Ram Jethmalani and Mukta Gupta, and law faculty members of Delhi University and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University will give lectures to 50 Delhi Police officials – 23 inspectors and 27 sub-inspectors.
The officers would attend a three-hour session every day during the month-long training programme.
Dadwal said: “It has become important in any profession to keep pace with the changing scenario. The upgradation programme for police officers will help them strengthen their professional skills, understanding and application of law.
“The programme will sensitise the officers and equip them with the social and legal perspective besides fundamental rights for impartial functioning and efficient law enforcement.”
