Greater Noida: Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi will July 9 address farmers in Uttar Pradesh’s Bhatta-Parsaul village, which saw violent protests against land acquisition last month, a party leader said Wednesday. However, the administration is yet to give permission for the event, an official said.
“To give final touches to the event, (state Congress president) Rita Bahuguna Joshi visited Bhatta-Parsaul Tuesday,” said Yogendra Awana, general secretary of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee.
Deepak Agrawal, Gautam Budh Nagar district magistrate, said: “The party has sought permission for Rahul Gandhi’s public meeting at two places – Bhatta-Parsaul and Jewar.”
The permission will be given only after police give a security clearance, he added.
Violence between farmers and the administration over land acquisition in Bhatta-Parsaul villages May 7 resulted in the deaths of four people, including two policemen.
