Along with Hisar, by-polls will be held for five assembly constituencies spread across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Maharashtra and Bihar, it said in a release here.

The Haryana Janhit Congress MP and a veteran non-Jat politician of Haryana had died on June 3 this year at the age of 80, causing this by-election.

Assembly by-elections will be held for Tiruchirappalli (West) seat in Tamil Nadu, Banswada in Andhra Pradesh, Indira Nagar in Puducherry, Khadakwasla in Maharashtra and Daraunda in Bihar too, the poll panel said.

“After taking into consideration various factors like, festivals, and electoral rolls, the commission has decided to hold bye-elections to fill these vacancies,” the release.

Notification for the elections will be issued on Sep 19, though the model code of conduct for the districts in which these constituencies fall will come into immediate effect.

The last date for nominations will be Sep 26 and the following day the last day for withdrawal of candidatures.

After polling through electronic voting machines (EVMs), counting of the votes will take place on Oct 17.
