Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party legislature party leader Harshdev Singh said here Wednesday evening that the resolution of Valley-based independent MLA Abdul Rashid seeking clemency for Guru is “not admissible” under rules of the assembly.

Harshdev Singh said the resolution had only “sensational value” and no substance, as the assembly cannot question the judgment delivered by the apex court of the country.

Guru’s death sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court for his role in the attack on the Indian Parliament in December 2001.

The ruling National Conference and opposition Peoples Democratic Party have voiced their support for the resolution.

The resolution was submitted last week after Tamil Nadu assembly passed a resolution seeking clemency for the killers of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.
