Lucknow: Lashing out at the Gujarat Chief Minister (CM) Narendra for observing fast for ‘communal harmony’, eminent Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawwad announced on Saturday that he would also observe one-day fast praying for political end of Narendra Modi.
Maulana Jawwad who has sizeable following among the Shia community is also a member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB). Jawwad claimed that Modi has misunderstood the judgement of Supreme Court and he is misguiding the people also. He termed Modi’s fast as a drama to divert attention from other issues. “It is a planned strategy by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to divert the attention from the heinous crime that Modi committed during his regime,” he said.
Jawwad also has appealed to Hindus to come forward for observing fast along with him. Jawwad will be breaking his fast at the Asafi Masjid as he does in Ramdan. Hindus can break the fast as per their rituals.
However, his announcement did not go down well with some other clerics. Spokesperson, All India Shia Personal Law Board (AISPLB) Maulana Yasoob Abbas stated that one should oppose Modi bitterly but not observe fast as a gimmick.
“This is nothing more than a gimmick. Modi is a brutal ruler who has massacred thousands of innocent Muslims. Even if he fasts for 300 days, his sins will not be washed off,” said Abbas. He also denounced several crores which are being spent on the ‘fast’ of Modi.
However, Maulana Jawwad is determined to go ahead with his announcement of observing one day fast on Friday. Terming Modi’s fast as a drama, the cleric also appealed to the Hindu community for joining him on his fast scheduled for Friday. “My fast is aimed at highlighting the atrocities of Narendra Modi which cannot be forgiven no matter how much he repents,” said Maulana Jawwad.
Another Muslim outfit All India United Muslim Morcha (AIUMM) also decried Modi’s fast on Saturday. “His hands are soaked in the blood of innocent Muslims. It would be better if he admits his sins and spends rest of his life behind the bars. These political antics will be of no use,” said Dr MA Siddiqui, the president of AIUMM.
