Pune/Ralegan Siddhi (Maharashtra) : Reiterating his demand for a stronger Lokayukta in the state, anti-graft activist Anna Hazare Thursday said he will launch a popular movement in Maharashtra in its favour.
Hazare had written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan July 18 and demanded a stronger institution of Lokayukta in the state in the mould of Karnataka.
“People elect their leaders hoping they will use public money prudently and approve laws to ensure a bright future for the state,” the letter had said.
“When all hopes go haywire, people are left with no choice but to resort to agitations, which is their constitutional right,” it added.
In his letter, Hazare had said that he hoped positive steps positive steps would be taken and the need to agitate obviated.
Confirming the move, a close associate of the Hazare camp said that Hazare had reiterated his demand and urged the chief minister to pass the Lokayukta Bill in the next winter assembly session.
Sources in the Hazare camp also said that the Gandhian will wait till last day of the session and, if the bill is not passed, launch a fresh agitation from Ralegan Siddhi or Alandi town, near Pune.
