Chandigarh : Many farmers in Punjab’s Gobindpura village Wednesday put up black flags on their homes on Diwali as a sign of protest against land acquisition and poor compensation by the government.
The villagers have been protesting for over two months against the acquisition of their land for setting up of a private sector thermal plant.
?We will mark black Diwali this time,? farmer Ajmer Singh told IANS on phone from Gobindpura.
Located in Punjab’s southwestern Mansa district, the village is some 250 km from here.
The protesting farmers had refused to accept compensation offered by the government for the land.
