Bhopal: Nine notorious jail inmate from Dabra sub-jail near Gwalior made good their escape after offering drug-laced tea to the guards and sentry of the jail on Wednesday morning.
While the drugged jail employees have been admitted to a hospital, a “Mukhya Prahri” (chief guard) and three others have been suspended by the authorities concerned. The whole district has been cordoned off and a massive hunt for the prisoners has been launched. The senior officers reached the jail and started inquiry into the case.
According to Sub-Divisional Magistrate, (SDM) Dabra Tarun Kumar, the nine prisoners who escaped are accused of murder, loot and dacoity. Five of them were allegedly involved in the case of murder of a mill director. He said that a prisoner Gurucharan Singh had been given the task of preparing tea in the jail canteen. Before fleeing, the prisoners served intoxicated tea to the jail staff and as soon as the jail staff became unconscious the prisoners beat up and snatched key of the main gate from the guard posted at the gate and fled away from the jail.
He said that during the preliminary inquiry, it was found that the alarm and CCTV cameras installed in Dabra sub-jail were out of order. It is also being enquired whether the jail staff is hand in gloves with the absconding prisoners.
It is said that when the prisoners were fleeing, a person Saurabh Dubey who was standing on the roof a house saw the prisoners fleeing. He raised an alarm and then the jail employees came to know about the incident. The incident was suspected to have taken place under a conspiracy. Five boys with motorcycles came to a pan kiosk near the jail and waited for the prisoners. As soon as the prisoners came out from the jail, they fled away on the motorcycles.
The absconding prisoners included — Sitaram Paharia, Vijendra Yadav, Balli Ahirwar, and Surendra Kori of Jhansi, Jugaru Rawat of Kanchanpura, Kishan of Dabra, Gurucharan Singh of Seopur, Vicky of Dabra and Dinesh.
According to the jailor of Dabra Jail, Sunit Sharma two of the prisoners are convicted while seven are under consideration. The carelessness of sentries is being investigated. ([email protected])
