Mumbai : Hasina Parkar, the sister of fugitive mobster and India's most wanted criminal Dawood Ibrahim, was Wednesday granted interim bail by a local court till Thursday.
On Tuesday evening, Parkar, accompanied by her counsel Shyam Keshwani, had approached the sessions court to seek anticipatory bail in connection with an extortion case lodged against her.
Parkar, whose name figures in the first information report (FIR) filed by Mumbai police's Anti-Extortion Cell in connection with a real estate deal, has been on the run for the last few weeks.
Earlier, when the court started hearing her application, Parkar complained of uneasiness and lost consciousness. On instructions from acting sessions judge D.N. Deshpande, she was taken to an adjacent room to relax.
After the police failed to trace her at her central Mumbai's Nagpada residence, they went on a fruitless hunt for her from Mumbra in neighbouring Thane district to Bangalore, Hyderabad and several possible hideouts in Uttar Pradesh.
On Tuesday, Keshwani had approached the special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court to seek anticipatory bail for Parkar.
But special MCOCA judge M.R. Bhatkar said that she should instead approach the sessions judge.
