New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) does not know what it wants on the Lokpal issue, the Congress said Thursday after the opposition party met the president and sought reconvening of parliament to pass the bill.
“Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj wanted the government not to rush with the bill, and today the demand is a special session on the legislation,” said Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi.
“BJP doesn’t know what it wants on the Lokpal issue,” he added.
Reiterating that the Congress was committed to a strong Lokpal, Alvi said the BJP had been exposed as it had not supported the bill in the Rajya Sabha.
The Lokpal bill could not be passed in the upper house even after a three-day extension of parliament’s winter session. Though it was passed the Lok Sabha, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned midnight Dec 29 without the scheduled voting after nearly 10 hours of debate.
