The three accused are Abhay Kumar Bajpayee, a former managing director of Uttar Pradesh Small Scale Industries Corporation (UPSIC); S.P. Ram, a former director general of the state health department and Varun Jain, a Moradabad based businessman who supplied kits to the family planning department

Presenting the three before the court, the CBI sought 14 days custody, contending that the agency would recover articles and vital information from them.

Opposing the demand, the defence counsel submitted that the CBI remand should not be accepted since the agency had already recovered whatever it had to during questioning.

After hearing arguments from both sides, special judge A.K. Singh granted CBI custody of the three till Jan 10.

The same court Thursday granted custody, till Jan 13, of another accused – P.K. Jain, a general manager (project and design) with the Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam.
