Gaur, a veteran BJP leader who had campaigned in Uttar Pradesh, claimed that the Samajwadi Party will top in the numbers tally. But he added that the BJP will win 80-90 seats.

“There is a tough fight in Uttar Pradesh and the BJP will be in third position,” he told reporters here.

The statement stunned the BJP.

“It is Babulal Gaur’s personal view and there is no need to take it seriously,” said BJP spokesperson Brijesh Lunawat.

The staggered balloting in Uttar Pradesh will conclude March 3. The vote count will take place March 6.
