Pilibhit Lok Sabha member Varun Gandhi, who stayed away from campaigning in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, last week said the Bharatiya Janata Party had 55 chief ministerial candidates.

Talking to reporters, Gadkari said the comment was not “right” and he objected to leaders making such casual statements.

“What he said was not right, though he later gave a clarification,” Gadkari said talking to women reporters.

Asked if the BJP will take any action, Gadkari said: “I have taken cognizance of the comment.”
