65 killed in cyclone Irina in Madagascar

Antananarivo (Madagascar) : At least 65 people have been killed in cyclone Irina in Madagascar, the disaster management office said Tuesday.

The storm left 73,490 people homeless in Ifanadiana, the worst affected district, the national office of risks and disasters management (BNGRC) said.

Cyclone Irina swept through the northeast of Madagascar Feb 26 and docked the southwest coast of the island country until March 2 before sinking in the Mozambique Channel.

Prime Minister Omer Beriziky rushed to the affected areas to inspect the situation.

Madagascar is located in the Indian Ocean.
