Minister of State for Home Jitendra Singh said in the Lok Sabha: “The CPI-Maoist is trying to establish organisational bases in the northeast with a view to form relations with other insurgents groups like People’s Liberation Army of Manipur.

“These groups are also working closely in the areas of training, funding, supply of arms and ammunition.”

Replying to another question on recruitment by Maoists, Singh said: “These extremist groups are recruiting boys and girls in tribal areas of Bihar, Chhattigarh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Odisha but there is no precise estimates available on the total number of recruits.”

He said the government was “closely monitoring” the situation.
