UAE leaders hold talks with foreign officials

Abu Dhabi : Leaders of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have met top officials from Canada, Britain, Greece and Argentina to discuss strengthening ties.

UAE Energy Minister Mohammed bin Dhaen Al Hamili met Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources Joe Oliver in Kuwait. Both leaders expressed hope that security and peace would prevail in the region and that would have a positive effect on the world energy market.

Al Hamili attributed the rise in oil prices in the world markets to the geopolitical unrest in the region.

He commended the contribution of Canadian companies to the economic boom in the UAE.

The Canadian minister said his government was keen on developing ties with the UAE, especially in a civil nuclear programme.

In Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces, met British Defence Secretary Philip Hammond who is currently on a visit to the UAE.

The two sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral ties, especially in military and defence affairs.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Ahmed Al-Murr, speaker of the Federal National Council, met the ambassador of Greece, Dionisios Zois, and Argentinian envoy Ruben Eduardo Caro.

Al-Murr said UAE had strong bilateral ties with Greece thanks to support from President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his Greek counterpart Karolos Papoulias.

The Argentinian ambassador congratulated Al-Murr on holding the 15th legislative session, and also hailed the strong relations between UAE and his country.
