Ghaziabad : Citing political uncertainty, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said Saturday that early Lok Sabha elections cannot be ruled out.
In view of the infighting within the United Progressive alliance (UPA) partners, “mid-term parliamentary election is not ruled out”, former party president Rajnath Singh told reporters here.
It was the first time Rajnath Singh, a former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, spoke to the media following the party’s poor showing in assembly elections.
Rajnath Singh said the outcome of the Uttar Pradesh ballot cannot be seen as a victory for the Samajwadi Party.
“People wanted to get rid of BSP (Bahujan Samajwadi Party, and they found the Samajwadi Party a viable alternate,” he said.
“The state unit is studying the reasons for the party’s debacle,” he said. The BJP finished a poor third in the four-way race.
