Ranchi : The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) is stumped after receiving a bill for Rs.150,000 from the state electricity board against energy expenses for running an electric crematorium that is yet to become operational.
The RMC received the bill from the Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB) early this week for a crematorium being constructed in Harmu locality. The crematorium is likely to become operational from January.
“The crematorium has not been formally handed over to us. But we have received a whopping electricity bill,” said Vinay Kumar Chaube, RMC administrator.
He said the bill had been forwarded to the Ranchi Regional Development Authority (RRDA) to settle it with the electricity board.
The crematorium is being constructed on the directives of the Jharkhand High Court at a cost of Rs.30 million. The RRDA is getting the crematorium built by a contractor.
Last year, a three-year-old boy in Ranchi was booked by the JSEB in connection with an illegal power connection. The boy had to get bail from court.
