New Delhi : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Monday told a Delhi court hearing a case against Congress leader Sajjan Kumar related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots that Delhi Police had not recorded witnesses statements in a fair manner.
Appearing for CBI, senior advocate R.S. Cheema told District Judge-cum-Additional Sessions Judge J.R. Aryan that a police officer had told one of the witnesses, Jagdish Kaur, about the outcome of other cases related to the anti-Sikh riots when they visited her for recording her statement.
“He told her (Kaur) that all the accused in those cases have been acquitted. What was the need of discussing the outcome of other cases with her? This shows the conduct and behaviour of the police during their investigations,” Cheema said.
The court is hearing the final arguments in a case against Sajjan Kumar and the other five people accused of inciting mobs against the Sikh community during the riots that broke out after the assassination of then prime minister Indira Gandhi Oct 31, 1984.
