Ghaziabad : An automated teller machine (ATM) of the State Bank of India Thursday caught fire in Ghaziabad, police said. Sources said it contained Rs.10 lakh in currency notes.
The incident took place at the Sanjay Nagar branch of the bank around noon.
Two fire tenders controlled the fire suspected to have been started by an electric spark.
Branch manager Sukhendra Singh said: “We have not assessed the loss till now but the ATM machine used to contain lakhs of rupees.”
Sources claimed that at the time of the fire, the machine might have contained at least Rs.10 lakh in cash.
