Temperatures cross 45 degrees in five Odisha towns

Bhubaneswar : A heat wave sweeping across Odisha intensified with at least five towns Thursday recording a maximum temperatures over 45 degrees Celsius, officials said.

The district headquarters town of Sambalpur, about 320 km from here, recorded the state’s highest — 45.5 degrees Celsius, making the life miserable for the residents.

The other places which recorded scorching heat include Hirakud and Titilagarh (45.4 degrees each), Jharsuguda (45.1 degrees), and Sonepur (45.2 degrees Celsius), a senior official of the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre here told IANS.

While the district headquarters towns of Balangir and Sundergarh recorded 45 degrees Celsius each, many places in the state recorded temperatures of 40 and 44 degrees, he added. The state capital witnessed 40.7 degrees.

The heat wave condition is likely to prevail in some parts of the state during next two days, the official said.
