Srinagar : The moderate Hurriyat conference headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Thursday decided to issue a show cause notice to three of its leaders for “violating” its constitution “by issuing statements that tend to create indiscipline” in the separatist conglomerate.
Abdul Gani Bhat, Nayeem Ahmad Khan and Azam Inquilabi will be served notice for violating the Hurriyat constitution and issuing irresponsible statements, according to a statement issued by the Mirwaiz Hurriyat.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Thursday convened by Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
“During the meeting, the members expressed concern over the situation arisen in the aftermath of remarks at Botengoo and ruckus at Hurriyat headquarters. Taking serious note of the incidents, it was decided that the Hurriyat chairman would take disciplinary action against the leaders involved in those acts.
“In view of the violation of the constitution, of creating ruckus, and issuing irresponsible statements, it was decided that Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, and Azam Inquilabi should be served a show cause notice as to why action should not be initiated against them. They have been asked to explain their position within 10 days,” the statement said.
Earlier this month, former chairman and senior Hurriyat leader Abdul Gani Bhat had told a party rally in Botengoo village of Baramulla district that the United Nations Security Council resolutions on Kashmir were not practicable now.
Following Bhat’s statement, Muhammad Nayeem Khan and Azam Inquilabi had demanded action against Bhat for issuing the controversial statement.
There had also been a ruckus at the Hurriyat meeting in Srinagar when supporters of Mirwaiz and Khan came to blows over the alleged inaction by the Hurriyat chairman against Bhat.
Thursday’s Hurriyat executive meeting was called to shoot down dissent in the separatist conglomerate.
