The book, “India’s Century: The Age of Entrepreneurship in the World’s Biggest Democracy”, presented to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Thursday, seeks to explore and unwind the secret of India’s metamorphosis into a global economy.

As the author himself put it after presenting it to his prime minister, the book presents an account of India’s emergence from the backwaters of global economy to the frontline, generating aspirations for the billion-strong population.

“The book has gone beyond the ‘flat world’ view and explores the people’s unique can-do attitude and entrepreneurial spirit that, in combination with economic liberalism, has put the economy on the fast track,” Kamal Nath said.

Published by McGraw-Hill of New York, it gives a first hand view of his ideas and how he sought to take India Inc on to the global platform while laying a roadmap for Indian entrepreneurs to benefit from emerging trade opportunities.

“For the first time, a political insider reveals the strategy behind India’s economic growth and its future in the global market,” the publishers said about the book, calling its author a “key intrepid reformer”.

“With a unique insider’s perspective gained from 30 years in India’s parliament, ministries, and economic sphere, Kamal Nath provides an exclusive inside look at India’s rapid economic turnaround and its impact across the globe.”

The book also goes on to explain how an economic engagement by the leading nations of the world with India can be profitable for everybody in the coming years.

Kamal Nath has been India’s face at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and also emerged as a key interlocutor for the developing world during the ongoing global trade talks.

In the past, he has served as the minister key economic and development-oriented ministries, including textiles, environment and forests, besides serving the Congress party as general secretary.

The book, as the publishers say, is a combination of both narrative and history, as also anecdotes and analyses, and gives a first hand account of how policies are fashioned and how India Inc has now managed to compete globally.
